Understand the Potential.

Understand the Potential.

Understand the Potential.

You come to an investigative firm because you’ve encountered something you cannot adequately address with the information and capabilities currently available to you.

You may know what you need to understand, establish, locate, or resolve without knowing what an investigation can make possible.

You define the objective. It gives the investigation focus, but it does not define its potential. A finding may reveal a connection, identify another source, provide context, or change what becomes important to the investigation. Understanding that potential is how we work.

Karlstad Intelligence is built around the fundamentals of investigative work: understand what you need to know, identify the sources most likely to provide it, work those sources effectively, and follow what the findings reveal.

Technology changes the speed at which information can be obtained. We use technology not simply to find information, but to ask better questions. What we learn informs conversations, reveals connections, and expands our understanding of where the investigation can go next.

Every investigation is different, but effective investigative work is built on patterns. People, businesses, relationships, events, and transactions create recurring types of records, connections, behaviors, and sources. Experience teaches us to recognize those patterns and to know where to look.

TIMOTHY KARLSTAD

He has spent more than two decades in investigative work across corporate risk management and private investigations. His experience spans claims investigation and resolution, case research, surveillance, undercover assignments, investigative operations, leadership, and the development and training of investigative methodology.

Across that work, the circumstances and objectives have varied considerably. Investigations have developed intelligence that challenged representations, revealed previously unknown activity and relationships, located people and information from limited starting points, and uncovered facts that changed the understanding of a situation.

The value of that work has taken different forms. In some matters, findings have helped clients avoid unnecessary financial exposure or resolve significant claims. In others, the value was identifying what had been missed, establishing facts that changed the direction of a matter, or developing the intelligence needed to make a more informed decision.

He learned investigative work before social media, online records, and AI, and has kept pace as each arrived. Technology expands what is possible. Judgment decides what matters, and it comes from having done the work both ways.

A source is approached for a reason. An investigative path is followed for a reason. What is found matters, but so can establishing what is not there. Each result adds to the experience of working familiar problems and working through unfamiliar ones.
